In my opinion, the best kind of innovation is one that makes change easy – and fun. It has a low impact on the environment, is simple to use and scalable. The SOCCKET, a soccer ball that doubles up as an energy source, is a prime example. It’s an ingenious invention from two Harvard students that harnesses the kinetic energy of play to charge a power source in the form of a soccer ball.
The ball is made of recycled material, cheap, portable and can be used as a safe source of energy. Kids can play with the ball all day and return home with enough power to charge up lamps and water filters. Kudos to Jessica O. Matthews and Julia Matthews, the inventors of the SOCCKET, for their mission to use the world of play to make a genuine difference in the world.
