If business or pleasure takes you to the south west of England, then Bristol in particular, Clifton is a good place to stop.
I was there mid-week at an enchanting, traditional bed-and-breakfast hosted by owners Joanna and Simon Fuller at their lovely home overlooking the river Avon and the local cricket club in Clifton (9princesbuildings.co.uk). Quiet, tranquil, and great storytelling from ex marketing man Simon at a communal breakfast table alongside other interesting guests. It comes with an additional benefit. An old friend, Bob Reeves – former President of the Rugby Football Union and former teacher at Lancaster Royal Grammar School lives next-door in the garden flat, Number 8. Bob is wonderful company, a great storyteller, loves to chat and has his own Chardonnay vineyard in Burgundy and a mini version in his back garden in Clifton. Just ring his door-bell!!!
He is the Chairman and Founder of a wonderful charity – The Foundation for Leaders in Sport (FLS). I’ve spoken at three of his conferences in the past and kicked off my fourth appearance last Thursday, hosted by PPO graduate Richard Lewis from Encirc Beverages at his wonderful bottling facility, and joined by leading sports coaches, entrepreneurs, business chiefs, and top academics. A good time was had by all. The two themes were “How leadership is changing“ and “How to create future leaders”. A great group, a great place and a great day. Thank you, Joanna and Simon for looking after me so well. And thank you Bob for putting on yet another inspirational event.
Onwards!
