Netflix is a Lovemark of mine.
I love their commitment to creativity, storytelling, innovation and exploring what’s next.
They are my go-to streamer.
They’ve had their ups and downs – like any ambitious, successful business, but as they say in soccer – form is temporary; class is permanent.
And Netflix is class.
I’ve been fortunate enough to work with European PR / Comm’s Oliver Rawlins and his leadership team for the last couple of years and there’s a lot to like about Netflix’s culture. Here’s my take on a few of their beliefs:
On Decision Making:
- We do not believe in consensus. We listen and discuss and bet on The Captain.
- We believe in informed Captains who make the judgement call.
- We are extraordinarily candid with each other.
- Silent disagreement is unacceptable.
- Share information openly, broadly and deliberately.
(KR note – In other words, DADA, RASCI and Active Listening in action.)
On Leadership:
- Our goal is to inspire our people, more than manage them.
- The leader’s job is to set clear context, teach and be highly informed.
- We do not buy into leaders micro-managing.
(KR note – Completely in line with our Inspirational Leadership programme.)
Effectiveness:
- People over Process.
- You don’t need policies for everything.
- We do like processes that help us get more done.
- Use your best judgement at all times.
- We can always do better.
- We value consistent excellence.
- Working effectively is what counts.
- No ‘brilliant jerks’.
- We will be highly aligned and we live to create and improve our culture together.
(KR note – In synch with our Road to Peak Performance programme.)
See what’s next!!
