I’ve been privileged to be part of the New Zealand All Blacks Family since my arrival in New Zealand in 1989, 35 years ago.
During that period I’ve been a sponsor, a Board member, an Ambassador, a Mentor, a fund-raiser, an adviser and a Fan.
The All Blacks know that the most successful, sustainable organisation/unit feels like a Family and plays like a Team.
(There is no such thing as an ex-All Black. Once an All Black, always an All Black.)
In these days of commerciality and short-term thinking, New Zealand Rugby and the All Blacks remain a beacon of Purpose, Values, Peak Performance and Family.
I was reminded of this yesterday when I received my annual invitation to the All Blacks Reunion. Held for all former/current players and all former/current Board members, the Reunions take place on the weekends of the Test Matches in both the North Island and the South Island, and include a formal VIP dinner, an invitation to attend the Captains’ Run on the afternoon prior to the Test, two tickets for the Test and entrance to the NZ Rugby VIP Lounge for the game.
A great chance to spend a weekend (with a guest) with old friends / new friends – all part of the NZ All Blacks Family.
NZ Rugby knows how important it is to connect past, present and future to sustain the Team’s world leading position on an ongoing basis.
(They also provide all former players / Board members with two free tickets for every All Blacks test in New Zealand. A much appreciated, generous nod of thanks to those who have contributed to the cause over the years – a pretty rare initiative in today’s short-term world!)
So here’s to New Zealand Rugby and the All Blacks Family.
Kia Kaha Kia Toa!
