Trudy and I recently spent a week on the Costa Del Sol at the Annual Raffles and Fairmont General Managers’ Conference.
It was held at a magnificent beachside property which has only been open for six months – The Fairmont, La Hacienda – just outside San Roque. Think neighbouring Malaga, Marbella, Estepona without the crowds.
Right outside our window was The Rock of Gibraltar – a 10 minute car ride away.
Irresistible.
I was last in Gibraltar exactly 45 years ago.
Not much has changed.
The monkeys are still there.
The caves are still there.
Main Street and the British schools are still there.
Marks & Spencer is still there.
Fish and chip shops are still there.
Trudy had never been there and we had a great time driving around The Rock on the local buses.
It’s a bizarre experience going back in time to 1950’s Britain without crossing the Atlantic.
If you’re down that way, it’s certainly worth dropping in.
