I spent many childhood weekends and Summer holidays in the Lake District – an hour away from my Lancaster home. And we’ve had a beautiful home in my favourite village, Grasmere, for over a decade now. Which? magazine ranked the top 100 villages in the UK for food and drink, tourist attractions, scenery attractiveness, shopping, peace and quiet and value for money.
Grasmere was 5th, and neighbouring villages Cartmel 10th, Keswick 18th with Ambleside also in the top 50. Four villages in a 20 mile radius – all worth a visit nearby, with Hawkshead and Windermere in the top 100 too. More Michelin starred restaurants than any region outside London, the best scenery in the UK, great local shopping (Herdy, Booths) and great local beers and brands.
